2013-15 Opportunity
Defra’s ‘Funding for Outcome’ is leading 2013-2015
- Environmental Research,
- Engineering Science, and
- Delivery of flood alleviation.
Flood Risk (loss) reduction equates in broad terms to flood peak (stage) reduction stimulating interest in the development of generic 2D hydraulic mapping of Fluvial landuse, and :-
Editor’s note:-
Under continual development as iterative pilots unfold (towards generic 2D hydraulic analysis of all UK catchments), this 2013 theme builds on open-resource by open-method and commends open network forum review. IP of the domains, derived data and developed graphics (for example the connection between amenity infrastructure, flood-risk and sustainable engineering) is extended to communities and managers, and promoted always in pursuit of wellbeing and risk reduction.

Not forgetting
- water flows downhill (more . . . stream networks)
- exceedance is primarily overground (more . . . 2D modelling)
- velocity control is critical to flood alleviation (more . . . rural field networks)
- Pro-active FRM is Flood Peak Management; re-active FRM is private (last ditch) resilience
